One Sided Protests Against Israel Only Invigorates Palestinaian's Hamas -Malaysiakini

Since the fragile ceasefire between Hamas and Israel ended last week, Israeli citizens living within a 27-mile radius of the border with the Gaza strip find themselves living in a war zone when Hamas militants launched countless of rocket attacks on  Ashdod, just 23 miles away from the turbulent border that Israel shares with the Gaza Strip.

In retaliation, Israel launched the ariel offensive on Saturday after more than a week of intense Palestinian rocket fire that followed the expiration of a six-month truce, which Hamas refused to extend.

While most Muslims in Malaysia and in Islamic countries staged protests calling for boycott of Israel products, burning effigies of Israel's PM, Ehud Olmert and President Bush whom they claimed of backing Israel's aggression , it will not help any ceasefire. Now you tell me - if say - Thailand has been raining rockets on Penang and Singapore on Johor, will the Malaysia Government retaliate and protect it's citizens?

The mosque destroyed Friday was known as a Hamas stronghold, and the army said it was used to store weapons. It also was identified with Nizar Rayan, the Hamas militant leader killed Thursday when Israel dropped a one-ton bomb on his home.

That airstrike killed 20 people, including all four of Rayan's wives and 10 of his 12 children. The strike on Rayan's home obliterated the four-story apartment building and peeled off the walls of others around it, carving out a vast field of rubble.

A rocket barrage hit the Israeli city of Ashkelon early Friday. Two rockets hit apartment buildings, lightly wounding two Israelis, police said.

Now read this :

Thousands demonstrated in the West Bank in solidarity with Gazans. In Ramallah, Palestinian police loyal to Hamas' moderate rival, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, barred protesters from chanting pro-Hamas slogans or waving Hamas banners. Three Hamas activists were arrested.

While keeping up the military pressure, Israel also appears to be offering an opening for the intense diplomatic efforts, saying it would consider a halt to the fighting if international monitors were brought in to track compliance with any truce with Hamas.

While urging Israel to a ceasefire, the leaders of the Muslim countries must throw full support for the moderate Palestinian President, Mahmood Abbas government to gain control of the hardliner Hamas territories and concurrently calling for an end to Hamas militant leaders in all sorts of attacks against any Israeli and it's soil. To attack Israel, instigating this unnecessary war and hiding under the Isreali onslaught causing civilian casualties is like a man assaulting his nemesis and hides inside a woman's skirt when the enemy retaliates.
